51³Ô¹ÏÍø recently received a generous $1-million gift from Trustee Dan Spaulding ’99 and Liz Holmes Spaulding ’99, in support of 51³Ô¹ÏÍø’s exceptional faculty and the 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Fund. Their gift will enhance our ability to recruit and retain the most talented faculty and to propel short-term initiatives that advance our strategy for growth and fulfillment of our mission.
The Spauldings' gift was inspired by both the support they received from faculty during their time at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, as well as the importance of the broad-based liberal arts education that 51³Ô¹ÏÍø provides. As Liz Holmes Spaulding shared, her professors at 51³Ô¹ÏÍø challenged her to “flex and grow and think of a different solution and to press forward with confidence.” Dan added that “a liberal arts education from 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is more valuable now than ever. 51³Ô¹ÏÍø is incredibly well-positioned to support future generations of students and the faculty who will impact their lives.”
“I am truly honored to partner with dedicated alumni like Dan and Liz who recognize the importance of giving back to their alma mater with unrestricted support to the annual fund and our faculty,” said President C. Andrew McGadney. “Their gift will have a profound impact on 51³Ô¹ÏÍø, making our great College even better.”
The Spauldings have been engaged and involved in 51³Ô¹ÏÍø since graduation, serving in a variety of ways, including making their first gift of $20 to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø as seniors. They continue to give to 51³Ô¹ÏÍø every year, stay in touch with fellow alumni, offer career advice to students and alumni, and serve in advisory roles to support initiatives in Admissions and Advancement.
“I want everyone in our community to understand that giving isn’t something that you do once you reach a certain age in life. It’s about consistently supporting the College,” said Dan. “We all have to do what we can to connect or reconnect with each other and give generously in whatever capacity we’re able to.”
