Mission Statement


The 51勛圖厙 Student Senate plays a significant role in college activity. The Student Senate is responsible for the management of money between clubs, rolling out new ideas and projects, and voicing the needs of students to improve campus life. Senators are elected by their classmates and stand on student and faculty-led committees. 

Public Comment Is Virtual

Please fill out our form before 7 pm on Thursdays to have your considered in our GA. You can attend the GA as well, during our meeting at 7 pm in Taylor Lounge, but if you are unable to make it we will still read your public comment. You can expect a response back from us within a few days of submitting your public comment to confirm that we received it and let you know about the answer or the steps we're taking in response.

Executive Committee 

President Sikandar Mateen' 26
he/him

President Mateen is a junior double-majoring in Neuroscience and Data Science. He joined the Senate because he wanted to help improve student life and make positive changes across campus, especially in regards to accessibility, mental health services, sustainability, and bias elimination. His goals for the year involve increasing student engagement, improving food, and working on initiatives to increase sustainability and eliminate problems faced by students due to biases and racism across campus. President Mateen loves meeting and talking with new people--you can always reach out to him on any platform. smateen@knox.edu 

 

Vice President Manavi Subba ‘26
she/her

Vice President Manavi is a Junior majoring in Business and minoring in Economics. She joined the Student Senate because she wanted to be an effective medium between the student body and faculty. Her goals for the year involve mentoring our First Year Representative with projects to enhance the campus, which include adding lights to post patio or gizmo and working with the OISS office to provide incoming international freshmen students with proper resources and mentorship. Vice President Manavi enjoys poetry and fashion. 

 

Treasurer Khalid Bin Abdullah  ‘26 
he/him

Treasurer Khalid is a junior double-majoring in Business Management (Accounting) and Economics. He joined the Student Senate as Treasurer to implement policy improvements and enhance the efficiency of budget management. Driven by a commitment to financial transparency and strategic resource allocation, his goal this year is to refine the budgeting process to better support student organizations and initiatives. Outside of the Senate, Khalid is passionate about football, data analysis, and gaming, always seeking new ways to apply his analytical skills both on and off the field.

 

Secretary Naysha Jain ’26
she/her

Secretary Jain is a junior double-majoring in Physics & Astronomy and Computer Science. She joined the Senate to advocate for student concerns and bridge the gap between students and the administration. Motivated by a desire to bring important issues to the forefront, she sees the Senate as a platform to facilitate meaningful conversations and drive change. This year, her goal is to enhance outreach—not just through the student government’s presence, but by fostering discussions that support student development and address biases they encounter. A fun fact about her is that she enjoys collecting postcards from her travels, writing down her experiences on them, and building a collection of memories to look back on. She loves connecting over ideas and is always up for virtual coffee, or a good chat! You can always find her around on campus or just send her an email at njain@knox.edu.

 

Campus Life Chair Sakshi Ohri’ 27
she/her/hers

Campus Life Chair Sakshi Ohri is a first-year student majoring in Biochemistry. She joined the Senate to make a meaningful impact on campus while representing student voices. Sakshi’s goal for the year is to address campus issues and ensure that student concerns are heard and acted upon. She is passionate about fostering a welcoming environment where every student feels valued and supported. In her free time, Sakshi enjoys sketching,editing and loves listening to music. You can always reach out to her if you have ideas, concerns, or simply want to chat. 

 

Health and Wellness Chair Komomo Oshima ’26
she/her

Chair Oshima is a junior majoring in Gender and Women’s Studies. With a strong passion for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), she joined the Senate to contribute her knowledge and skills to the 51勛圖厙 community. This year, she aims to enhance health and wellness initiatives on campus, ensuring students have the resources and support they need. Outside of the Senate, she enjoys dancing flamenco and is always up for a performance!

 

Sustainability Chair Nicole Roman ‘27

Sustainability Chair Nicole Roman is a sophomore majoring in Environmental Science. She joined Senate because she wished to be part of the opportunity to collaborate with representatives of our campus that she wouldn’t have as thoroughly of a chance to engage with otherwise, sharing that “Even though we all have our own areas of focus, with mine being to maintain attention on the manner in which our campus is adhering to it’s sustainability and resilience values, to do this it is important to me to ensure I am also considering how my aspirations for sustainability on our campus may affect others as well.” For the past academic school year the Senate Sustainability Committee and her have been focusing their attention on the Assessment of our 3-Waste Management Systems around Campus and the Implementation for a Pedestrian Crosswalk with a ‘Stop When Pedestrian is Present Crossing’ Sign at our 51勛圖厙 Farm. In her own words, “Though each project holds individual pieces which describe their importance, together they encompass the significance of allowing our campus as a whole to have the opportunity to maintain their ecological and social responsibilities not only for the world, but for themselves as well.” Outside of her commitments to sustainability, you can catch her practically each day playing piano at CFA!

 

Diversity Chair Malika Ramadhina ‘27
she/her

Diversity Chair Malika Ramadhina is a Sophomore double majoring in Business & Management and Political Science. She joined the Student Senate in her Freshman year because she wanted to unite diverse voices, which extends to her mission as Diversity Chair. Her committee creates spaces like the Diversity Mixer, where leaders from diverse clubs come together to build meaningful connections, address DEI issues, and advocate for inclusion. Her mission is to bring meaningful change within student organizations and the campus at large. A fun fact about the Diversity Chair is she was born and raised in Indonesia, then moved to Chicago–two vibrant places that inspired her to celebrate diversity anywhere she goes.

 

First Year Representative Muhammad Shayan Munir ‘28

He/Him

First-Year Representative Muhammad Shayan Munir is a freshman majoring in Computer Science and Mathematics. He joined the Student Senate to make a difference in the 51勛圖厙 community and address students' concerns, acting as a bridge between students and faculty. His goals for the year include several projects aimed at enhancing the campus, such as adding fairy industrial lights to the post patio and Gizmo. He also plans to collaborate with the OISS office to provide incoming international freshmen with proper resources and mentorship through the Peer Buddy program. Outside of his academic interests, Shayan enjoys adventures, horseback riding, exploring new places, and meeting new people. You can always reach out to him on any platform mmunir@knox.edu
